Drawn from Na pragu svobode – Jeseni 1944 III (On the Threshold of Freedom – Autumn 1944 III) by Nikolaj Pirnat, this design captures a moment so still, it hums. A woman sits on a low wall before a ruined house. Her gaze rests, solemn and steady, on a cat before her. Behind her: shadowed figures, silent onlookers, the echo of things unsaid.

Created during the final year of World War II, this artwork is both document and elegy—part of Pirnat’s Domovi, je?e, gozdovi (Homes, Prisons, Forests) collection. It’s not propaganda. It’s not mourning. It’s something colder, more resigned, more resilient: the stillness between destruction and return. The moment when you walk back into the house and find the walls are standing, but nothing else is.

The design unfolds across the shoe like a mural in grief tones—black and white, but never flat. The faces are carved in shadow. The home is skeletal. The woman does not move. But she sees. This is a portrait of survival with no sentimentality, only presence.

Wonders Whispered About These Wares

Adored By (and Designed For)

• Historians and poets of wartime memory
• Lovers of anti-fascist resistance art and stark visual storytelling
• Those drawn to grayscale minimalism with emotional depth
• Anyone who knows survival sometimes means sitting very still and letting the cat come to you

Atmospheres Clinging to These Relics

  • Occupied quiet
  • Grief, hollow and unadorned
  • Shadowed remembrance
  • Domestic aftermath
  • Eyes that still see

These Vibes Shall Be the Emanation

This is one of the most haunting designs in the Jaded Lament collection—visually restrained and emotionally thunderous. The lighting hits like a lightning flash frozen mid-frame. The house is barely shelter, almost memory. The shoe becomes a shrine—centered but fragmented, echoing the way war shatters homes
and stories.
