Adapted from a 1962 West German postage stamp issued as part of the Wohlfahrtsmarken series honoring the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, this design evokes the haunted grace of Sleeping Beauty in her eerie interlude—not yet rescued, not yet gone. Börnsen’s illustration, first issued October 10th, 1962, depicts not a love story, but a legend caught mid-breath. The princess lies in suspended animation—stillness mistaken for serenity, the pause before myth becomes memory.

The stamp was unearthed in a sealed frame within the abandoned corridor of the Archive’s Hall of Pause—a place where time has been known to hesitate. Lament records claim the glass over the stamp refused to crack, even under duress. Beneath it, scrawled in fine red ink:

“She dreamed alone for a hundred years. Do not wake her unless you mean it.”
