She begged him not to. But the forest was quiet, and the stream was clear. One sip, and the world changed shape. Now he walks beside her on four legs, and she never stops looking back to see if he still follows.
Brother Drank from the Wrong Stream is drawn from Paul Friedrich Meyerheim’s 1890 illustrations for Little Brother and Little Sister, a Grimm tale that trades dragons for devotion and kingdoms for kindness. This is no tale of swords or spells—it’s about the aftermath. About walking together, even after everything changes.
The outer panels depict the sister gently cradling her cursed sibling—his body now a fawn’s, but his eyes still his own. Her hands speak of tenderness, her stance of strength. On the inner panels: a modest hut tucked deep in the woods, a flicker of firelight, and the hush of survival. The palette is wood-smoke and memory—antique green, soft ochre, and a whisper of sepia linework.
