Jaded Lament
Speak Fox Boots

In this enchanted forest, nothing is quite what it seems—and some creatures speak only when you’re finally quiet enough to listen.
This design draws from an exquisite 1911 illustration in Giambattista Basile’s Pentamerone, one of the earliest and most influential fairy tale collections in Western Europe. The scene is painted like a dream: a woman with flowing white hair and a gown like jeweled moss rests against a tree, deep in conversation with a fox cloaked in knowing stillness.
The composition is lush with mythic balance. On the outer panels, the woman and fox rest beneath a tree whose golden leaves cascade like falling secrets. On the inner panels, their gaze locks—intimate, curious, utterly still—as though the fox has just said something it shouldn’t, or is about to. The top panels are a crown of autumn leaves, soft and shadowed, inviting you beneath the canopy of the story.
